Combining gourds with papercutting can be a natural. Both are plant-based and readily available. Both can be inexpensive to pursue, but made into elaborate pieces of art making them the best of both worlds!

I spoke with Tony Bennett at Blind Faith Music and got some advice about my ukelele. He's been building mandolins for a long time, and was a valuable expert (and therefore authentic data) for my project.
